Duo in Belmopan hit with firearms charges after police encounter; suspected of “going equipped”

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and jointly charged 23-year-old Camron Adolphus of Burrell Boom, Belize District and 20-year-old Culzac Vaughn of Roaring Creek, Cayo District, with keeping a firearm without a gun license, keeping ammunition without a gun license, and keeping prohibited ammunition.

But the question still to be answered is what exactly did they have planned when police stopped their vehicle? The two men were stopped by police following a surveillance operation on Friday in which authorities recovered a nine-millimeter Beretta pistol, and live rounds of 7.62, nine-millimeter and .22 ammunition.

Staff Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith told us, “We have received some indication, indeed; however, that is not information [we] wish to disclose at this moment.” As for how they got ahold of the trove of weapons and ammunition, police offered no hints, but ASP Smith said the Department continues operations against illegal weaponry at the borders.

Appearing in court, according to ASP Smith, Adolphus has admitted guilt, while Vaughn pleaded not guilty. Both have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison as their cases continue.
