Leon Kluge Shares Look at SA’s Display Coming to Life at Chelsea Flower Show!

Leon Kluge is at work in London, working his magic at this year’s incredible Chelsea Flower Show display.

London, England (11 May 2026) – SA’s award-winning landscape designer and botanist has shared a progress update of South Africa’s display for this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Things are taking shape, even after what he describes as a bumpy start.

Now on day 4 of the build, Kluge shared the update alongside a video of how the display has come together so far.

“The buildup for the South African display at this year’s Chelsea flower show has begun and is currently on day 4, after a bumpy start things are now taking shape, and the rush is on to have our structures done by Monday before the flowers start to arrive (hopefully). I’m currently working on the burnt area of the garden, sculpting the charred wood edging…”

The display this year draws inspiration from the wildfires that swept through the mountainous regions of the Cape over the past season. Kluge and his team are framing the destruction not as an ending but as rebirth. The incredible regeneration our unique and resilient fynbos is famous for.

Over 2000 stems of fresh cut flowers from fynbos farms across the Western Cape will feature in this year’s display. Fire-licked wood will form a blackened backdrop to a colourful foreground of orchids, carnivorous plants, and a stream of tannin-rich water weaving through. On the opposite side of the display, fresh protea cut flowers will stand out against the charred landscape.

It’s a big year for South Africa as we enter our 50th year of participation at the Chelsea Flower Show. Kluge is our lucky charm and skilled green thumb, at the helm again, following last year’s gold-winning ocean-inspired display.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show runs from Tuesday, 19 May to Saturday, 23 May 2026 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, drawing over 170,000 visitors each year.
