SCOTTLAND FC coach Norman Mapeza has played down his side’s rise to the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) table, insisting that it is still too early to start talking about title ambitions.
Mapeza made the remarks after Scottland secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Herentals at Rufaro Stadium Saturday.
The result saw Scottland dislodging Hardrock FC from pole position on the standings with 31 points. The two have a three-point difference.
Scottland FC’s win was enabled by a first half brace from Knowledge Musona, who has now scored four goals in the last three outings for his side.
Despite the positive results and his team’s position at the top of the table, Mapeza believes there is still a long way to defend their premiership champions title.
“It’s still early days, I think. Like I said before, for us, we just need to take each game as it comes and collect maximum points, then we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.
“I believe if we get maximum points, it will push us close to our goal,” said Mapeza.
Scottland FC has now gone for five games without recording a defeat, and currently they boast of a strong defence which has seen their goalkeeper Nelson Chadya managing 12 clean sheets in 16 games.
Saturday’s win for Scottland ended Herentals’ nine match unbeaten run and it saw ‘The Student’ dropping to fifth position on the log.
