MAPLE Ridge RCMP annouinced on Tuesday that they have arrested one of two male suspects in an attempted robbery incident that occurred at a local business inside a shopping centre in the 22700-block of Lougheed Highway on April 7 in Maple Ridge.
The suspect was taken into custody last Thursday after a search warrant was executed in Mission by Maple Ridge RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit (SEU) and the Integrated Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT).
The two masked male suspects who were allegedly attempting to rob the business were interrupted by security and deployed bear spray before leaving the area. Police contained the scene, and reviewed video surveillance and spoke with witnesses to identify possible suspects.
Emergency health services also attended the scene and provided aid to bystanders affected by the bear spray. No further injuries were reported.
Investigators are working to identify the second alleged suspect and pursuing a number of additional investigative steps.
Police said that no further information will be released at this time.
