Minister Martinez commends Wil Maheia and Belize Territorial Volunteers for bravery and acts of patriotism

By Zoila Palma: Toledo East Area Representative Osmond Martinez has commended Wil Maheia and the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) for their continued efforts to demonstrate Belizean patriotism.

During his Independence Day speech, Martinez recognized the BTV’s annual efforts to travel to Sarstoon Island, particularly during the September 10 celebrations, while emphasizing the importance of protecting Belize’s territorial integrity.

“I want to take this moment to applaud Wil Maheia and the Belizean Territorial Volunteers. Year after year, especially on September 10th, they make their way to Sarstoon Island with courage, patriotism, and love for country,” Martinez said.

Martinez says the BTV’s commitment serves as a reminder that patriotism extends beyond national celebrations and involves active service and responsibility toward the country.

“Their commitment is a reminder to all of us that patriotism is not only about waving a flag on September 21st. Patriotism is about standing up for Belize, respecting Belize, serving Belize, and protecting the future of Belize,” he stated.

“We acknowledge their bravery. We recognize the courage it takes to go forward even when faced with aggression. And at the same time, we must always remember that Belize is strongest when we act with discipline, professionalism, and unity,” he added.
