(AURN News) — Gas prices are surging again with no clear sign of relief ahead of the busy summer travel season.
According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas has climbed to $4.55.
That is sharply higher than the $3.15 drivers paid at this time last year. Just one month ago, the national average stood at $4.14 per gallon.
The increase comes just weeks before Memorial Day weekend, a period that typically brings heavier travel demand and higher seasonal fuel prices.
Prices are climbing across the country.
In Washington, D.C., gas is averaging $4.61 per gallon. In Pennsylvania, drivers are paying about $4.69 per gallon. California continues to see the highest prices in the nation, with averages now reaching $6.16 per gallon.
