It was not easy for most people to attend World Cup 2026 matches in person, but it got more difficult if one hailed from any of the African countries.

Nearly 3,700 fans from nine African countries were refused Visas to attend the tourney.

The report from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship department of Canada (IRCC) indicates that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has the highest visa rejection rate among the African fans seeking to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 2026 World Cup tournament is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States of America.

A total of 385 fans from DR Congo had applied for Visas to attend the World Cup, but only 15 were approved and the remaining 370 applications accounting for 96.1 percent, were rejected.

In Kenya some 225 people applied for Visas but only 20 were approved while 205 got turned down amounting to 91.1 percent rejection rate.

Ghana, on the other hand, had filed 1,725 Visa applications but only 185 got approved, with 1,540 (89.3%) being refused.

Cameroon had 115 fans wanting to attend the World Cup 2026 but only 15 of them managed to secure visas while 100 others (87.0%) were refused entries.

Then comes Nigeria, which had 785 people applying for Visas to the FIFA event, but 110 sailed through while 675 others (86.0 percent) were advised to watch the matches on Telly.

There were also 170 Senegalese fans who wanted to fly to America and Canada for the World Cup, but the Visa results granted only 25 the permits while the other 145 or 85.3 percent, returned empty handed.

In Ethiopia, a total of 140 fans applied for Visas, but only 30 got the permits, while 110 others were dropped at the rate of 78.6% refusal.

Algeria was ready to send 245 people to the FIFA World Cup, but the Visa filters picked just 65 applicants dropping the other 180 (73.5%), just like that.

Then there were 550 Egyptian fans who sought for Visas, but at least a good number of them, 225 got the permits but 325 were refused entry, accounting for 59.1% rejection.

Several other fans from assorted African countries have faced major visa challenges in their attempt to attend World Cup 2026 matches and were thus compelled to buy new batteries for their TV remote controls.
