Thirty-four-year-old Primus Toussaint of Belvedere, Canaries, has been formally charged with the murder of 24-year-old Joy St. Omer following a fatal shooting in Marigot last week.
According to a statement from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, officers attached to the Marigot Police Station and the Major Crimes Unit responded to a homicide at Marigot, Castries at approximately 7:01 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Joy St. Omer of Au Tabor, Anse La Raye, seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. She was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner.
Police said that while officers were processing the scene, they received information that St. Omer’s husband, Primus Toussaint, had reported himself to the Criminal Investigations Department accompanied by his attorney.
Toussaint was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and detained at the Centralized Community Safety Center.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday, May 22, determined that St. Omer died from haemorrhagic shock due to multiple organ injuries resulting from gunshot wounds to the chest, head and right upper limb.
Police confirmed that on Saturday, May 23, Toussaint was formally charged with the offence of murder.
He was escorted before the Magistrate’s Court in Castries on Monday, May 26, where he was remanded into custody until June 30, 2026.
