SCORPIONS DELIVER AT HOME AS BARROW CELEBRATES DOUBLE FOOTBALL TRIUMPH

What a week. What a comeback. What a statement from Gambian football.

The Scorpions returned to the newly renovated Independence Stadium and gave the home crowd exactly what they came for: goals, drama and victory.

With thousands of supporters behind them, The Gambia’s senior national team defeated Somalia 2–1, adding another moment of celebration to a remarkable week that also saw the Baby Scorpions edge Senegal 5–4 in a nine-goal thriller.

For Gambian football supporters, it was the kind of week that rekindles belief. The senior Scorpions won at home, the youngsters delivered against Senegal, and Independence Stadium once again echoed with the noise and passion of Gambian football.

President Adama Barrow joined the celebrations, praising the players, officials and supporters following the victories.

President Barrow wrote:

“Watching our senior national team, the Scorpions, take on Somalia at the newly renovated Independence Stadium filled me with joy and renewed hope. It reminded me that with the right opportunities and conducive environment, our players can compete and win. And win they did, with a 2–1 victory that made the whole nation proud.

It has been a remarkable week for Gambian football. Our Under-17 team, the Baby Scorpions, also delivered a thrilling 5–4 win over our sister Republic of Senegal. What an exciting week for football in The Gambia!

Congratulations to the Scorpions and the Baby Scorpions, the Gambia Football Federation, technicians, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and every fan who kept the energy alive from the first whistle to the last. Keep making us proud.
