*A routine stop at one of his own restaurants turned into an unexpected moment for Shaquille O’Neal, who was surprised when a cashier treated him like any other customer while verifying his cash during a visit to Big Chicken, Basketball Network reports.

O’Neal was at the restaurant grabbing food when he joined the line and prepared to pay. After a brief interaction with a young customer ahead of him, the NBA legend reached the counter and handed over a $100 bill. O’Neal was caught off guard when the cashier held the bill up to the light to confirm it was real. Laughing it off, he said, “I know you didn’t just check my money. It’s all good, I don’t want no problems,” before adding, “Checking my money at my restaurant. Things that make me go hmmm…”

Despite being the founder of the chain, O’Neal experienced the same transaction process as any other guest, underscoring the everyday operations of the business he helped build. Watch the moment in the clip below.

Big Chicken, which launched in Las Vegas in 2018, has expanded rapidly and reportedly has more than 350 locations in development. The brand is known for its bold, comfort-style menu items, including signature sandwiches like the “Big Aristotle” and “Charles Barkley,” which combine fried chicken with indulgent toppings and sauces.

Beyond his restaurant venture, O’Neal has built a wide-ranging business portfolio. His investments span brands such as Auntie Anne’s, Five Guys, Papa John’s, and Krispy Kreme, along with ventures in fitness, retail, and technology.

With an estimated net worth exceeding $400 million, O’Neal earns significantly more from business and endorsements today than he did during his NBA career, where he once made around $30 million annually at his peak. He has said he only invests in products he personally uses and believes in, a strategy he credits for his long-term financial success.
