For a school that has been in existence for years, the barrier of a national qualification was finally broken in 2026.
In the high-stakes arena of the USSSA National Schools Football Championship, progress is often measured in inches and heartbeats.
For Aidan College, the 2026 campaign wasn’t just a tournament; it was a calculated, year-long mission to shatter their own ceiling.
After a bittersweet exit at the Round of 16 last year, the message from the dressing room was clear, being good was no longer enough. The team entered camp in January and its testament that success is rarely an accident.

For Head Coach Kabuye Umar, the seeds of this year’s success were sown in the heat of January. While many teams were still finding their footing, Aidan College was already in the lab, forging a brotherhood that would become their greatest asset.
“We started working with these boys as early as January and this helped us become a unit,” Coach Umar said. “The players and the technical team sacrificed to see that we attain our set target of going past last year’s hurdle.”
Clinching the Aggrey Zonal championship
The ghosts of the past were many. Last year, a painful penalty shootout loss to STAHIZA in the zonal final left a lingering sting.
This year, however, the narrative changed. A disciplined, clinical Aidan College side surged through the zones, eventually toppling Ndejje High to claim the championship trophy.
The momentum carried them into a gruelling District stage. Even in the face of adversity, including a tough loss to powerhouse Buddo SS, the boys remained unshaken, winning three of their four group games to punch their ticket to the bigger stage.

Tough Wakiso District experience
The ultimate goal was to break the barrier and move past the Round of 16 mark that had previously defined their limits. Not only did they break it, but they smashed it.
Aidan College’s tactical discipline and unity propelled them into the Semifinals, marking the first time in the school’s history that they had reached such heights at the National Games.
Though their championship dreams were halted by the defending champions, St. Mary’s Kitende, the performance solidified Aidan’s status as a new force in Ugandan school sports.
Despite the historic run, Coach Umar is keeping the celebrations on ice. With the Third-place playoff looming, the focus has shifted immediately to securing a podium finish.

The rise of Aidan College is a testament to the synergy between the pitch and the boardroom. Coach Umar was quick to credit the school’s administration and the visionary leadership behind the scenes.
“I want to thank the director in a special way for investing in this team and offering a chance to these young talents who have been blessed to grow under his wings,” Umar added.
As Aidan College prepares for its placement game, they no longer look like the new kids on the block. They look like a program built to last. The barrier has been broken, the target has been met, and for these young talents, the journey to greatness is only just beginning.
