THE World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) will launch its national Anti-Sikh Hate Report on Saturday, April 18 in Brampton, Ontario, marking the culmination of one of the most comprehensive examinations of anti-Sikh discrimination in Canada to date.
Featured speakers will include Senator Baltej Singh Dhillon, who was the first turbaned Sikh to serve in the RCMP, and Gurbaj Singh Multani, whose landmark Supreme Court of Canada case affirmed the right of Sikhs to wear the kirpan in Canada.
Drawing on over 1,700 survey responses and insights gathered from hundreds of participants at townhalls across the country, the report provides a detailed account of the challenges faced by Sikh Canadians and outlines a path forward to confront hate and strengthen inclusion.
The report was funded by the Canada Race Relations Foundation.
The report provides a definition of anti-Sikh hate, provides examples from Canada and presents the results of the survey which reveals the shocking impact of anti-Sikh hate on the community in Canada, the WSO said.
The Brampton launch is the first in a series of events nationwide, bringing together community leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss findings and next steps.
