The moment the famous “RIP” sound effect blasted through the speakers, everyone inside Nomad Bar & Lounge knew exactly what it meant — another bottle of Don Julio 1942 was making its grand entrance.

Carried shoulder-high through cheering crowds, escorted by mascots and flashing phone cameras, the luxury tequila bottle became the centrepiece of celebration as partygoers toasted to big wins and even bigger vibes during the second edition of A Night in Mexico on Friday night.

Organised by Nomad Bar & Lounge and African Simba in partnership with Don Julio, the event transformed Kampala nightlife into a vibrant Mexican-inspired experience reminiscent of Cancun’s energetic party culture.

Guests embraced the theme with bold fashion statements that turned the venue into a colourful spectacle. Wide-rimmed sombrero-inspired hats, leather pants, checkered shirts, boots, mini dresses, and denim short shorts dominated the night as revelers immersed themselves fully in the atmosphere.

At the specially designed Night in Mexico backdrop, guests lined up for photo moments, capturing memories in the kind of carefree excitement that only comes when a party genuinely delivers on its promise.

The music quickly became the heartbeat of the night.

DJs Litto, Ashley, and Nomad’s resident DJs warmed up the crowd with a mix of Afrobeat, Amapiano, Afro house, and party anthems that kept revelers on their feet for hours.

But the biggest anticipation of the night surrounded South African DJ Kace, also known as The African Mzungu, who headlined the event.

Speaking before stepping onto the decks, DJ Kace said his mission for the night was simple.

“This is going to be my third or fourth time in Uganda, and I always love the energy the Ugandan people have. Shout out to the organisers for the opportunity to serve Ugandans with dope sound,” he said.

By the time he finally took over the decks at around 3am, the crowd was fully locked in.

Kace opened his set with Jose Chameleone’s timeless classic Mama Mia, instantly triggering a loud singalong across the venue as revelers belted out every lyric in unison.

He then seamlessly transitioned into Afro house and Amapiano mixes, blending tracks into one continuous wave of rhythm that kept the energy elevated deep into the morning hours.

Throughout the night, Don Julio 1942 remained at the centre of the experience.

Every bottle order came with full fanfare — from the now-iconic shoulder-borne procession to dramatic sound effects like RIP and Ameno, turning each delivery into a shared celebration for the entire crowd.

The self-declared team of “Omugaga ffe aba mulina” lived up to the occasion, enthusiastically documenting every bottle parade for social media as phones flashed across the venue.

One reveler, visibly captivated by the bottle service and atmosphere, described the experience as unlike anything else in Kampala’s nightlife scene.

“A Night in Mexico is a whole different experience. This is spectacular,” she said.

As dawn slowly approached and the final bottles crossed through the crowd, the night showed little sign of slowing down. Sombrero hats had shifted out of place, boots had clearly endured hours of dancing, and exhausted but satisfied partygoers continued singing along to every beat.

By the end of the night, season two of A Night in Mexico had firmly established itself as more than just another themed party.

It was an immersive nightlife experience built around music, fashion, luxury, and spectacle — and if Friday night was anything to go by, Kampala’s party lovers will already be waiting for the next edition.
