Dwayne George, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP’s) newly appointed parliamentary representative for St. Mary’s South, said he is celebrating a hard-fought victory. These remarks were made following the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin held last Friday at Government House.

George acknowledged that many doubted his chances against his opponent, Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, noting that while his rival enjoyed widespread popularity, he remained confident in his campaign.

Reflecting on the outcome, George described the victory as a moment of “karma”, saying he stayed determined throughout the contest and responded with resilience when challenged. He also expressed gratitude to supporters, thanking those who stood by him throughout the campaign.

George said the outpouring of support, positive messages, and encouragement was overwhelming, adding that it has been both inspiring and a privilege to serve the people of St Mary’s South. He encouraged continued unity and commitment, urging constituents to keep working together for the advancement of the country.

Meanwhile, Simon expressed gratitude to his supporters and thanked those who stood by him throughout the campaign. In a statement on his social media page, he said the outpouring of support, positive messages, and calls had been overwhelming, and that it has been both inspiring and a privilege to serve the people of St. Mary’s South.

Simon also encouraged continued unity, urging supporters to keep fighting for the country. He extended congratulations to fellow parliamentarians Jamale Pringle and Trevor Walker on regaining their seats, and encouraged them to continue advocating for the people of the nation.

Simon also credited his campaign team for their dedication, noting that their consistent effort played a key role in securing the victory.
