Patients Redirected to La Clery as Betty Wells Polyclinic Temporarily Closes

Patients who would have normally sought medical treatment at the Dr. Betty Wells Urban Polyclinic will now be accommodated at the La Clery Wellness Centre from May 13, after the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition announced the temporary closure of the facility following confirmation of a bed bug infestation.

In a public notice, the Ministry said the Environmental Health Division recently conducted an assessment at the polyclinic which verified the infestation, prompting immediate intervention measures and the temporary relocation of primary healthcare services.

According to the Ministry, the Dr. Betty Wells Urban Polyclinic will remain closed from Wednesday, May 13, 2026 to Sunday, May 17, 2026. During that period, patients seeking primary healthcare services will be attended to at the La Clery Wellness Centre between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight daily.

Officials noted that the National Eye Clinic will continue operating at the Betty Wells facility, while emergency cases will be handled at the Owen King EU Hospital.

The temporary closure comes amid mounting public concern over conditions at the urban polyclinic after reports of persistent bed bug issues surfaced in recent days. The Ministry said the Environmental Health Division will continue treatment and assessment exercises at the facility to ensure it is safe for both patients and staff before normal operations resume.

Health officials say services at the Dr. Betty Wells Urban Polyclinic are expected to resume on Monday, May 18, 2026.
