The state of the Brixton Station Road arches in 2026 – thirteen photos

We’ve been photographing Brixton Station Road from way back in the 1990s, when a bustling street market stretched all the way from Brixton Road to Valencia Place.

Around 10 years ago, many of the arch facades were rebuilt to a standard design, stripping away a lot of the character.

As years have gone by, the frontages have turned into eyesores, with both the brickwork and the steel shutters being plastered in graffiti and tags.

The shanty town presence of Pop Brixton keeps the street looking downmarket and unloved.

As you head east by the junction with Valencia Place, you hit the ‘posh’ part of Station Road, where the graffiti vanishes.

Above can be seen one of three arches run by the Heineken-owned Brixton Brewery.

Finally, a look where Station Road joins Barrington Road.
