Two men have been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison following separate firearm and ammunition seizures by police.

Cavel Brown of Freetown was charged with unlawful possession of a modified flare gun and unlawful possession of three rounds of 9mm ammunition. Police said the offences allegedly occurred around 4:05 a.m. on May 6th in Freetown.

Brown pleaded guilty to both charges when he appeared in court yesterday. The matter was adjourned to May 18th for sentencing. He was represented by attorney Sherfield Bowen.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old Twin I Payne of Collins was charged with unlawful possession of a Taurus G25 9mm pistol, unlawful possession of a magazine and unlawful possession of three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Payne also appeared in court yesterday but was not required to enter a plea at this stage. His attorney, Michael Archibald, requested disclosure from the prosecution. The matter was adjourned to June 30th.

Police say they continue to intensify operations aimed at removing illegal firearms and ammunition from the nation’s streets as part of ongoing efforts to reduce gun-related crimes.

“Anyone with information relating to illegal firearms is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at 462-3913 or call the Crimestoppers anonymous hotline at 800-TIPS (8477),” the police said in a statement.
