ET Welcomes First Twin Otter Classic 300-G, eyes regional aviation stake expansion

De Havilland Aircraft, the Canadian aircraft maker, has delivered the first of two Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft to Ethiopian Airlines, as the national carrier embarks on improving its outreach to a regional market.

The acquisition follows an agreement announced during the Paris Air Show in 2025 when Ethiopian Airlines confirmed plans to modernize and strengthen its domestic operations with the new-generation turboprop aircraft.

In a statement this week, the Canadian company said the aircraft will help Ethiopian Airlines strengthen its operations across Ethiopia and the wider East African region, including tourism destinations and lakeside cities.

Ryan DeBrusk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at De Havilland Canada, welcomed Ethiopian Airlines’ decision to acquire the aircraft and highlighted its operational capabilities.

“The Twin Otter’s proven reliability, versatility, and ability to operate in challenging environments make it well suited to the diverse missions Ethiopian Airlines will undertake across the region,” Ryan DeBrusk, VP for Sales and Marketing at De Havilland Canada, welcomed ET’s decision to acquire the aircraft and highlighted its operational capabilities.

He added that De Havilland Canada looks forward to supporting Ethiopian Airlines’ continued growth and its commitment to connecting communities across East Africa.

The Twin Otter Classic 300-G combines the aircraft’s established short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance with increased payload capacity and a modern Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck.

The aircraft also features lightweight cabin seats, upgraded electrical systems, and improved cockpit ergonomics designed to enhance operational performance.

De Havilland Canada said the 300-G offers greater operational efficiency and mission flexibility while maintaining the rugged capabilities required to serve destinations that are inaccessible to many other aircraft.

Speaking during the delivery event, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEOMesfinTasew described the arrival of the first Twin Otter Classic 300-G as an important milestone in the airline’s regional growth strategy.

“This aircraft will enable us to better serve remote areas while supporting tourism, economic development, and essential air services throughout the region,” saidMesfin.

The second Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft is scheduled for delivery later in 2026.
