Federal Raid Of Ohio Voting Rights Organization Is An Affront To Democracy Says ‘Good Trouble’ Organization
Photos: Video Screenshot|Facebook Washington D.C. – Last week, federal agents raided an office of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, a voting rights organization that has helped Ohioans exercise their sacred freedom to vote and make their voice heard for the past 20 years. In response,Good Trouble Lives On national organizers issued the following statement:“We are compelled to respond to the Ohio raid and other concerted attempts to discourage voter engagement with our best collective organizing. These raids are a blatant attempt to intimidate civil rights organizations and their volunteers from supporting their fellow citizens in exercising their right to vote. This is an affront to our democracy. They are trying to silence us and keep us from voting. We will show them they cannot intimidate us into inaction. “On July 17th, six years after the passing of Civil Rights hero Lewis – we will continue the fight for voting rights with Good Trouble Lives On: Weekend of Action a national nonpartisan, nonviolent effort where communities across the country will come together for a weekend of voter engagement, civic education and faith-based organizing. “The same spirit that fueled Selma, Montgomery, and the March on Washington lives on in our unified action. Like the freedom fights before us, we must continue to exercise and support our democracy and sacred freedom to vote.” Good Trouble Lives On is anchored by non-partisan voter engagement, civic education and faith-based organizing, under the banner of “Teach! Reach! Preach!” The weekend will bring together grassroots organizations, legal advocates, faith leaders and community members for a unified collective push to support one another in making our voices heard.
