When Haiti takes the field against Brazil at the World Cup this evening, the matchup will bring together two nations connected by more than soccer.

Over the past 15 years, Brazil has become one of the main destinations for Haitians seeking opportunities abroad. Following Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, thousands of Haitians migrated to Brazil, building communities across the country and creating lasting economic, cultural and family ties.
