Panel Discussion with Survivors of Gun Violence
Community conversation on gun violence prevention, healing, and collective action
As part of MKE Peace Week 2026, Mayor Cavalier Johnson will host a “Breaking Down Bullets” panel discussion alongside Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman, State Representative Kalan Haywood, and survivors of gun violence. The conversation will focus on addressing gun violence in Milwaukee through lived experience, prevention strategies, and collective action.
Organized in partnership with Mothers Against Gun Violence, the panel discussion will be moderated by Karin Tyler, Director of the Department of Community Wellness and Safety, and will feature voices from public safety, government, and community members directly impacted by gun violence. This event is free and open to the public.
“Reducing violence requires honest conversations, strong partnerships, and listening to those most impacted,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson. “This discussion is about bringing people together to talk openly about the challenges our city faces and the solutions needed to create safer neighborhoods for everyone.”
MKE Peace Week is a coordinated, citywide effort that brings together City departments, community-based organizations, schools, faith leaders, and residents around a shared commitment to building a safer Milwaukee.
