National Sports Council announces premier multi-sport national youth competition

By Zoila Palma:  On May 11, 2026, the National Sports Council (NSC), with the support of the Ministry of Sports and in collaboration with national sporting federations, announced the introduction of Super Nationals 2026, a premier multi-sport national youth competition scheduled to take place from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, 2026.

This exciting new initiative will bring together the country’s top young athletes in Volleyball, Basketball, Football, and Athletics, creating a premier national platform for youth competition, talent identification, and athlete development.

Athletes who are enrolled in school who are ages 15 and under will be eligible to compete.

NSC says that each district will assemble teams made up of their best athletes to proudly represent their district at the national level.

“The National Sports Council is leading this initiative as part of its continued commitment to youth development through sport, providing young athletes with opportunities to compete, grow, and remain positively engaged during the summer break.

To ensure fair and competitive team selection, district-wide try-outs will be held across all six districts with dates to be announced for each respective discipline,” the council said.

The National Sports Council emphasizes that Super Nationals 2026 does not replace any existing federation tournaments, but rather serves as an additional national opportunity to strengthen athlete exposure, district representation, and inter-federation collaboration.

“This first edition of Super Nationals is expected to serve as the foundation for what will become one of Belize’s most impactful youth sporting events, creating a safe, inclusive, and competitive environment for the next generation of national athletes,” the council added.

The National Sports Council invites schools, parents, coaches, communities, and all sporting stakeholders to support this important national initiative as Belize prepares to celebrate youth talent on one stage.
