BTS May Return to Mexico in 2027, President Claudia Sheinbaum Teases

Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum teased on Thursday (May 7) that BTS may return to the Latin American country in 2027. The news came the day after the K-pop supergroup visited the National Palace, where, in an unprecedented moment, the members appeared on one of the balconies to greet approximately 50,000 people gathered outside, according to official figures.

The president shared the news during her regular morning press conference, during which she showed a video of herself accompanied by BTS’ seven members in one of the halls of the presidential headquarters.

“For all the BTS ARMY, and for all the young people of Mexico, I made them a proposal,” Sheinbaum says in Spanish in the video. “Do you want to come back next year to Mexico?” she asks.

“Sí!” The group members respond in unison.

Sheinbaum teased that the details of the group’s potential return to Mexico will be revealed later, and that yesterday’s meeting was only a first contact with them.

The head of state thanked her South Korean counterpart, President Lee Jae Myung, for the diplomatic efforts that made it possible for RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook to attend the meeting at the National Palace, and added that she will send a letter to express her gratitude for his collaboration. “Without him, it wouldn’t have been possible,” she emphasized.

BTS’ visit to Mexico’s presidential headquarters has already made international headlines. In an unprecedented event, and before an animated crowd gathered at the Zócalo, the country’s main public square, the members of the band greeted local ARMY and dedicated messages to them in Spanish and English, eliciting applause, smiles and even tears.

As part of its ARIRANG tour, BTS returned to Mexico to perform three concerts at the capital’s GNP Seguros Stadium on Thursday (May 7), Saturday (May 9) and Sunday (May 10). For these sold-out shows, promoter Ocesa reported selling just over 136,000 tickets.

Sheinbaum has embraced the wish of Mexico’s BTS ARMY after tickets for the three concerts sold out in less than an hour. In a letter sent at the end of January, the president requested from her South Korean counterpart more BTS concerts in the country. Three weeks later, she announced that the South Korean government had responded, saying it had forwarded the request to HYBE, the company managing the supergroup.

BTS is currently on tour to support new album ARIRANG. The global trek continues into 2027, and is currently slated to wrap March 14 in Manila, Philippines.
