GID, AMAC sign MoU to tackle irregular migration
The Gambia Immigration Department and the African Migratory Advisory Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Monday to strengthen migration management and improve tracking of missing migrants. GID Director General Ebrima Mboob presided over the signing at Immigration Headquarters in Banjul on 5 May 2026. AMAC promotes effective migration management through real-time data collection, migration education, advocacy, and awareness campaigns targeting irregular migration. AMAC Founder Adrian Corish called the agreement a “significant milestone” that will boost collaboration on migration management, enhance real-time data collection on missing migrants, and expand access to reliable migration information. “These efforts are critical to restoring dignity and hope to affected families and communities across The Gambia,” Corish said. Director General Mboob commended Corish and his partners for their commitment to migration management initiatives. He stressed that effective migration control requires strong partnerships. “GID is committed to working with relevant stakeholders to curb irregular migration across all recognized borders,” Mboob said. The ceremony ended with the formal signing of the MOU, marking a joint commitment to deliver accurate migration information and strengthen systems for tracking and supporting missing migrants.
