GMB Opens 1,804 Buying Points
The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has established 1,804 buying points in every ward across Zimbabwe to ease the burden of transport costs for farmers, who had to spend heavily to deliver their produce to GMB depots.

GMB Chief Executive Officer, Edson Badarai, told villagers that the initiative is designed to support small-scale farmers producing at least one tonne of grain. He made the remarks during a field day held at his rural homestead in Ward 12, Badarai Village, Bikita.
The event’s guest of honour was Leonard Munamati, Director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources.
“We have set up 1 804 village buying points across all wards in the country. We discovered that transporting grain to our depots is costly for farmers and most of them have below 30 tonnes which is the minimum bought by millers,” said Badarai.
“The buying points will allow us to aggregate grain from farmers which we will sell on their behalf. Payments are processed a week after we collect the grain. We are working with millers.”
He added that GMB has also begun milling its own maize meal under the Agrodura brand, to strengthen food security by providing essential commodities at affordable prices.
