Fenix Flexin Denies ‘RUBBERZ’ AI Allegations: ‘No Sir, Recorded Same as All Music I Do’
The Shoreline Mafia member responded on social media to comments that he used AI to make his recent viral, genre-bending track.
If you’re tapped into rap social media, you already know that the conversation around “RUBBERZ” — the new song by Shoreline Mafia‘s Fenix Flexin — has been active since he first teased a snippet on Instagram earlier this month.
The song — which we included in Fresh Picks last week — doesn’t sound like most of Fenix’s music in terms of the vocals, production and genre, but it still manages to capture the spirit of his main thesis, which of course is flexin’, especially with lines like, “Swipin’ cards and stackin’ chips, I saw you sinkin’ ships/ Left me standin’ in the pourin’ rain, now I bought a heavy diamond chain/ My pocket’s gettin’ thicker, the watch is movin’ quicker/ Money talk is much louder now” in the opening verse.
However, some fans are convinced that the song is AI considering that it sounds like an ’80s synth-pop record that could’ve been on the Scarface soundtrack. He denied the AI allegations in the comments of a recent On the Radar performance he posted. “No sirrrrrrr, recorded same as all music I do!” he said. “Only difference is auto-tune reverb and me using my fake uk accent lol.”
Earlier this year, he spoke with XXL and said that he was going to experiment more with his sound. “I’ma take my sound and completely revamp it, I would say in about two years,” he told the outlet. “So, from this point until then, when I do my solo projects, I’ma drop little tidbits and tadbits until I could make a comfortable transition to doing what I wanna do at the end of the day as a completely grown man, as far as music’s concerned.”
Billboard has reached out to Fenix’s team for more added context.
